In recognition of the fact that the Welch Healthcare & Retirement Group world wide web
site, with more than 50-pages of objective and useful information, has become a resource
not only for seniors and their families, but for health care professionals throughout
Greater Boston and beyond, the New England Healthcare Assembly (NEHA) has awarded the
company a prestigious “Blue Ribbon” award.
NEHA is region’s largest professional organization with over 150 hospitals, 30 healthcare systems headquarters, 180 long-term care centers, 60 community health centers, 12 healthcare associations and 10 other organizations such as HMOs, physician group practice, college/university services.
Welch Healthcare’s web site, which had about 4,000 visitors in its first few months, is linked to a host of search engines and can easily be found by searching key words such as “Alzheimer’s,” “Adult Day Healthcare,” “Assisted Living,” “Retirement Living,” “Long Term Care,” and others. Even typing the words “Norwell” or “South Shore” will direct browsers to the Welch site. Or the site can be directly accessed through its domain name -- http://www.welchhrg.com.
While each section describes services available through the Welch Group, it also includes an objective, comprehensive resource for a wide range of services that would encourage repeat visits by a broad audience. Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group, headquartered in Norwell, Mass., is a comprehensive health care services company meeting the needs of senior citizens on the South Shore.
While virtually every major Boston hospital has a site on the Internet, Welch Healthcare executives were surprised to discover that there was no existing resource and referral site linking South Shore elder care services to the rest of the area’s on- line health care community. After extensive research and preparation, in November, 1995, Welch launched the web site.
Therefore, Richard M.Welch Jr., the fourth generation of the Welch family to help manage the company, developed a page devoted to links to specific senior sites, disease information, other local and regional health care providers, ambulance companies, etc. Richard designed the web site to be as user friendly as possible. Subjects are easy to find and pages are eye-catching. While, as might be expected, the primary target market --seniors -- are not necessarily surfing the Web and visiting the site, however, their children and grandchildren are. Numerous seniors have been connected to programs and facilities, and/or helped them locate other appropriate resources. Thanks to the international reach of the web, Welch has answered inquiries from as far away as New York about local assisted living communities.
As the Internet gains in popularity, Welch Healthcare is not only seeing more visitors with health care related questions, but more and more people looking for jobs in the health care field. Welch Healthcare will continue to update and expand the web site to meet expanding need and interest. Cyberspace has become the ultimate reference for next door and around the world. Welch Healthcare’s comprehensive care resource continues to meet the needs of the South Shore community with their Nursing and Rehabilitation Centers, Home Healthcare services, retirement housing, and Assisted Living Residences.
