The goals of Welch Healthcare's Alzheimer's Unit are:
To maintain the optimum level of functioning.
To maintain highest quality of life possible for each resident entrusted to our care.

Alzheimer's Disease brings with it a host of cognitive and physical losses. Welch's special Alzheimer Units have been designed to address and compensate for these losses to the greatest extent possible.

This is done in the least restrictive environment possible so that maximum personal freedom is allowed. There is minimal use of both physical and chemical restraints. The Units are designed to decrease inappropriate stimulation. This enhances each resident's ability to effectively interact with and perceive what is going on around them.

Behavioral problems associated with Alzheimer's Disease as cognitive impairment increases are addressed on the Alzheimer's Unit. As a resident becomes less able to understand their environment and communicate, their level of fear and frustration usually increases. Our trained staff learn through experience and education, the appropriate ways to interact with our residents so that behavioral problems are minimized.

Our staff seek to adapt to each individual's patterns of behavior. In this way we provide the best possible environment for every one of our residents to be successful in the tasks of day to day living.
