Resident Profile
Allerton
House at Hancock Park - Resident Profile
John
J. Robinson
A
man quietly devoted to his family, John J. Robinson was married for almost 50
years to his wife, Jennie M. Williams, and together they had five children.
Born
in South Boston, John met Jennie, who was from Brockton, while at a house party
in Dorchester, which was the common thing to do in those days.
Jennie loved music and was playing the piano when they met.
John fondly remembers how Jennie "banged away at the ivories".
After
five years of pursuing each other, the couple married and lived in Quincy.
During the Depression, John worked at various jobs and Jennie was a clerk
at a local department store, and later worked for an insurance company.
John and Jennie moved around quite a bit due to his work, spending time
in Weymouth and Connecticut.
John
eventually landed a job at Westinghouse as an Industrial Engineer, and purchased
his parents' home in Dorchester where they raised their five children.
Over the years, the family vacationed in Bridgeton, Maine, camping there
every summer. Later on, John and
Jennie would take trips to Clearwater, Florida to visit their daughter and
grandchildren.
After
45 years in Dorchester, Jennie passed away.
For the next few years, John enjoyed his many grandchildren, as well as
his great-grandchildren. In
September of 2000, John and his family selected Allerton House at Hancock Park
in Quincy as his new home.
John
is being recognized for his determination and participation, and his positive
attitude at Allerton House. John
currently serves on the Advisory Committee, works behind-the-scenes at the
Allerton House cable TV production program, and participates in other activities
and programs. When asked how John enjoys his new home, he replies, "They
keep me busy and happy."
